Why CEBIO Conducts Research
For CEBIO, research is more than data collection – it is our contribution to better, safer, and future-ready diagnostics. We are committed to this work because reliable laboratory results are essential for accurate diagnoses, informed therapy decisions, and the trust patients place in modern medicine.
Our goal is to advance diagnostics so that diseases can be detected earlier, assessed more precisely, and treated more effectively. To achieve this, we bring together science, laboratory practice, and clinical application – in collaboration with hospitals, research institutions, and industry partners.
We explore new approaches in molecular diagnostics, developing methods that analyze tiny biological traces – for example, fragments of genetic material (DNA) circulating in the blood. These approaches enable gentler and more precise diagnostics, such as detecting disease-related DNA from a simple blood sample instead of through tissue collection.

- Liquid Biopsy
Instead of taking tissue samples, circulating DNA fragments from tumor cells can be detected through a simple blood draw. We study how these tests can become even more accurate, sensitive, and reliable. - Quality and Comparability
To ensure that laboratory tests deliver consistent results everywhere, we evaluate whether different methods and instruments produce comparable outcomes – supporting the harmonization of diagnostic procedures. - Biomarker Studies
Biomarkers are measurable characteristics in the body that can indicate disease. We design and conduct studies that assess how reliably these markers perform in clinical practice and how much diagnostic value they provide. - Reference Materials
To validate laboratory tests, you need “reference samples” with well-defined properties. We develop such materials to help laboratories verify, control, and maintain the long-term quality of their assays. - Collaboration Between Laboratories
We conduct interlaboratory comparison studies in which several laboratories analyze the same samples. This allows us to determine how robust a method is – and how consistently results can be reproduced across laboratories.
